Sunday was Katy and Kevin's wedding day, but with the ceremony not set to start until 3:30, we had plenty of time for a visit to the Buffalo Museum of Science in the morning (the pix from that are in the previous post's gallery). My Mom and uncle used to visit the museum as kids, and my cousin Sandy suggested it as a place Theo would enjoy. And indeed he did--especially the children's discovery room, filled with hands-on activities, such as puppets, blocks, a train table, a water table, magnets, pipes that you could assemble into structures, etc. He also enjoyed the dinosaur exhibits, though he wasn't so keen on the space room (don't think he liked the dark!).
After a quick lunch in the hotel room and changing into our wedding garb, we headed out to the Buffalo Botanical Gardens for the wedding. Theo got a stellar (not!) 25-minute nap on the way over, so we figured he might turn into a grumpy mess early on, but I'm pleased to report that he did very well!
Due to the very windy weather, the wedding ceremony was held inside one of the arboretums. (It was originally planned for outside, but Mother Nature didn't cooperate.) The room www beautiful--obviously, there were plants and flowers everywhere! And I'll tell you something: A botanical garden is a GREAT place for toddlers during a wedding! Chris took Theo out before the ceremony started, and I'm told he had a wonderful time looking at all the plants.
Why did Chris take him out? Well, Katy and Kevin had a brass ensemble playing Beatles songs before the ceremony (very cool!), and when they stopped playing, Theo, who was very much enjoying them, started yelling, "MUSIC!! More!!" Knowing him as we do, we feared that he would bellow for music throughout the ceremony, so Chris quickly slipped out with him. Unfortunately, that meant he had to miss the ceremony, which was a really sweet, personal ceremony--just the kind he would've loved. But I enjoyed it for him!
The reception was at Pearl Street Brewery, a restaurant and brewery (obviously!) in downtown Buffalo. We sat with my (Great) Aunt Norma and her son (Richard) and daughter-in-law (Barbara). Theo was a very well-behaved little boy, much to our delight, and he pretty much ate his body weight in veggies, pot roast, chicken, and fries! He did, however, repeatedly demand music, and he was quite pleased when the DJ started playing it! He demonstrated his awesome dance moves for our end of the room, which had a bunch of people laughing! (That, too, is chronicled in the video I posted to the More Videos page.) Our tired little guy finally pooped out around 8:00, but that was actually later than we expected, so we were happy. And we really enjoyed he reception, which was fun, happy, and not the least bit stuffy or overly formal--just the type of party we love! Many congrats and much love to Katy and Kevin--and thanks for letting us share your day--we had a wonderful time!
